I just hit my 8th month too. Wasn't sure what to expect, didn't really like or understand it at first. And then similar to what you described it changed around month two by just showing up and having fun with it.
There’s something quietly beautiful about the things we almost don’t do.
The message almost not sent. The story almost kept to ourselves. The door almost left closed because we convinced ourselves nobody would be on the other side.
And then we press send.
That’s the strange magic of writing, isn’t it? You think you’re just putting words into the world, but really you’re building a small bridge and hoping someone, somewhere, recognizes the crossing.
What I love about this is the reminder that connection rarely arrives with a strategic plan, a quarterly roadmap, and a branded onboarding sequence, because apparently humans still insist on becoming meaningful to each other in the least efficient ways possible.
Sometimes it begins with a whim. A sentence. A memory. A moment of honesty that escapes before fear can tackle it at the door.
And somehow, that becomes a light for someone else.
I am so glad to find your Substack Chris! You are the real heart of health care, the advocate and loved one of a precious person who deserves and needs dignity and individualized care. I was blessed to spend a decade working as a Provider (Physician Assistant) in long-term care in both group homes and sub-acute pediatrics where I met many special children and a few families like you and your family, Chris. They taught me more about life and compassion that any course or training ever could. The children I met taught me most of all, that words are not needed to feel the caring touch and presence of those who pay attention with kindness. I feel blessed to be here in your community. 💗
Congratulations on crossing the 1500 Subscribers line! But most importantly for building this beautiful community through writing and being so open and vulnerable about your caregiving and parenting journey.🩷
This is great! I was surprised by how much I felt the same once I got on Substack. I have experienced an incredibly encouraging and supportive group of people! Love your posts! :D

Thank you for all of this.
The "How I started building" section is a fine collection of guidance to live by.
