…Overlap…
A Caregiver’s ‘Sandwich’ Poem…
…Overlap…
…the funny thing
about the center
is that it’s the same
as the middle
circular white space
encompassing
entrapping
even the best intentions
no Venn diagram
no overlap
showing relief
in our sphere
just us here…
~
Behind the poem: Most stories teach us to focus on beginnings.
Or endings.
The breakthrough.
The lesson.
The reveal.
But most of life isn’t lived there.
Most of life is lived in the middle.
And that’s where …Overlap… purposely resides.
Because right now, we have been thrust into sandwich caregiving roles… and we only have so much bandwidth…

Sandwich generation is NO JOKE and my kids don’t have the same needs as your son. Godspeed.
I've now realised why I love your poetry so much, you make me see things differently. My eldest is 16, and he has autism, he's amazing. I've always look in at the start, never at the center. Thank you Chris ♥️
